Computers are getting better than humans at reading

Hình ảnh
Jack Ma: 'We shouldn't fear AI' The robots are coming, and they can read. Artificial intelligence programs built by Alibaba ( BABA ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ) have beaten humans on a Stanford University reading comprehension test. "This is the first time that a machine has outperformed humans on such a test," Alibaba said in a statement Monday. The test was devised by artificial intelligence experts at Stanford to measure computers' growing reading abilities. Alibaba's software was the first to beat the human score. Related: Google is opening an artificial intelligence center in China Luo Si, the chief scientist of natural language processing at the Chinese company's AI research group, called the milestone "a great honor," but also acknowledged that it is likely lead to a significant number of workers losing their jobs to machines. James Cameron Gives Profoundly Shitty Excuse For Not Knowing About Eliza Dushku Getting Molested While Filming True Lies

Hình ảnh
Not the best look for James Cameron here. The famed director has officially spoken out about allegations that surfaced yesterday from Eliza Dushku against stunt coordinator Joel Kramer , wherein Eliza contends she was molested by Kramer as a 12-year-old working actor on Cameron's 1994 film True Lies . Related: Hollywood Women Call 'Time's Up' On ALL This Bullshit… Eliza gave a very, very detailed account — and Kramer quickly denied, well, pretty much everything — but Cameron came out later on Saturday evening at a Television Critics Association event and just plain old side-stepped the full issue. Speaking out about it after hearing the news, the Titanic director said (below): "Directors are historically pretty oblivious to the inter-personal things that are happening on the set, because they're focused on what they're doing creatively, but had I known about there would have been no mercy. I have daughters. There really would be no mercy now....

Dennis Rodman Busted For DUI — Rehab Ahead?

Hình ảnh
Last night at around 11:00 p.m. local time, former NBA star Dennis Rodman was busted for DUI in Newport Beach, California. The often-controversial former basketball star and pop culture icon was pulled over for a traffic violation, and cops ended up administering field sobriety tests that he failed. He was cuffed, and taken to the police station in Newport Beach. Related: Isn't Rodman Good Friends With Kim Jong Un? According to TMZ , Rodman was cooperative the whole time. He blew over the .08 limit once at the police station, though it's not known at this point exactly how drunk he allegedly had been. Rodman was booked in jail, where he stayed for seven hours until police determined he had sobered up enough to care for himself, and he was released on his own recognizance. A rep for Rodman told the outlet that rehab may well be in the former athlete's future, saying: "Alcoholism has been a struggle on and off for Dennis the past 15 years… [and he's going ...

Someone Left a Door Open, Nick Nolte Got Out

It’s common knowledge that Nick Nolte doesn’t give a fuck so hard that other people’s fucks disintegrate into fuckdust before they themselves can even be given. Paps caught Nolte climbing the fence along a Malibu highway recently and instead of asking him what he was up to, they just sat there and took pictures because they’re boring people. Who knows, they could have missed out on an opportunity to tackle a live deer or whatever was lurking on the other side of that fence. Lucky for Nick, some guy eventually showed up to talk him down, hand him a boba tea, and point him back in the direction of his house. He probably took a long nap in his front yard shortly after these pictures were taken. Nick Nolte is part of a dying breed of Hollywood eccentrics that wouldn’t care less if his dick was hanging out of his pajama pants in a Starbucks parking lot. He wouldn’t let it hang out in like a Matt Lauer sense, Nolte don’t play that shit. He would’ve probably pulled it out because he was st...

Kourtney Kardashian’s Boyfriend Is Coming for Christmas

Why Is Kirsten Dunst Touching Her Belly Like Tha— OH MY GOD THERE’S SOMETHING INSIDE HER!

Word on the street is that Kirsten Dunst let that funny-looking guy from Breaking Bad put a baby inside of her. While these pictures could very well be Kirsten realizing that chimichanga she had for lunch wasn’t sitting well, this new information makes it evident that she’s actually touching the living creature that’s forming inside her uterus. It was announced earlier this week that Dunst and Jesse Plemons are getting married in Austin next spring, so now I guess we know why. Will the baby possess Dunst’s charming, girl-next-door looks? Or will it come out looking like the actor that’s in a ton of stuff that everyone thinks is Matt Damon at first, then realizes it’s not? That’s really the only open question that I have going forward. Also, Kirsten’s dumper looks really dumpy in these photos and I wanted to post them because I’m an asshole. I’ve never really been one to get excited about baby news. I still think that Kylie Jenner is faking hers for publicity. Still, I guess it’s ex...

Morgan Spurlock Outs Himself for Sexual Misconduct

The Rock Was Set in Stone

Dwayne Johnson took time out of shooting whatever bazillion dollar, CGI-heavy apocalypse movie he’s making this week to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As far as I know, no one was sexually harassed or assaulted, so I’m gonna chalk this up as the feel-good story of the fucking year. Also I think he has finally ditched the whole “running for president” thing. For the record I was never against it because I thought The Rock was a bad guy, I’m just ready for someone that, ya know, knows how the government works and won’t start shit with countries they couldn’t even find on a map. On second thought, those two examples are merely the tip of the iceturd that we have going on in the White House right now. Still, no matter how crappy San Andreas was, Dwayne Johnson is everything Tom Cruise never was and it’s nice that the biggest action star in the world isn’t part of the space mafia for once… or is he… maybe we’ll find out in April of 2018 when he gives the giant gorilla from...

Watch Out Tinder, Brad Pitt Is “Casually Dating”

Name : Brad Pitt Age : 54 Hobbies : Sculpting, coffee, cigarettes, listening to Fleet Foxes in the guest house of a house that I paid for, but am being shunned like a dog who shit on the rug. Look, it was just a couple drinks, things got a little out of hand, sure I said some things… maybe I hit the kid, I don’t know. Not looking for anything serious, a friend actually dared me to start this tinder acct. LOL (also no kids plz, I got enough). **Swipe right for YES. Swipe left for NO.** It’s been a little over a year since Angelina Jolie screeched in a frequency only dogs could hear and vanished into a thousand bats, taking both her and the children out of Brad Pitt’s life. According to the GQ confession interview he did over the summer, he’s tried to clean up his act (and his reputation) since everyone found out he was sort of an abusive boozehound with a deep-seeded longing to steal heavy machinery at airports. He’s Brad Pitt, motherfucker. According to People , Brad has been b...

Mindy Kaling Created Another Human

Mindy Kaling’s semi-secret/surprise pregnancy is finally over now that she’s cranked out a baby girl. Back in June when she announced that she was pregnant, sources claimed that even her closest friends had no idea she was even seeing someone, let alone ready to have a baby. Still, because this is 2017 and we can all do whatevz because the world is on fire, she went through with it and left the world wondering who the baby daddy really is. The only couple leads that we have are on again/off again BFF BJ Novak, whom she showed up to the Oscars with back in February, and the possibility that she got knocked up by some dude in New Zealand while shooting A Wrinkle in Time . So let your imagination run wild on those two possibilities, it’s either BJ Novak (who may have been dating a 21-year-old Instagram model at the time) or some random kiwi she had a one-night stand with on her day off from shooting. Or maybe I’m wrong. Mindy might actually be serious about this whole paternally-fluid,...

Scott Disick Bought His Kid a Motorcycle for Christmas WTF

Somewhere between getting drunk by a pool with a 19-year-old in a foreign country and waking up next to a pool the next day next to an empty bottle of vodka and a 19-year-old in a foreign country, Scott Disick finds time to be a dad. Paps caught Lord Disickhead taking his 8-year-old son Mason to a motorcycle shop to stock him up on everything he needs to be a neighborhood nuisance. Why the hell photographers were hanging out at a motorcycle shop is pretty ridiculous, so I’m pretty positive Disick paid them to take pictures of him being “the cool dad.” Maybe Kris even wrote this subplot, I wouldn’t put it past her. When I was a kid, the “cool dad” I knew was my buddy Tommy’s. His dad gave him a stack of Penthouse magazines for Christmas when he turned 11. Tommy’s dad was a lot like Scott Disick too, in that he never saw Tommy except around holidays and his birthday and aways smelled like cigarettes and cheap booze. Tommy’s dad would be just like Scott Disick, except for the fact that...

Video: Alexis Ren Working Out in Underwear

Hình ảnh
I don’t think I’m alone when I say that these LOVE Advent calendars are getting a little out of hand. In years past, these things had a little bit of artistry behind them. Barbara Palvin’s Basic Instinct spoof was kind of cool, but it seems like this director just gave up on interesting concepts and opted more for a “just show me them boobies” approach. Enter Alexis Ren. Today we have her lifting weights in see-through underwear while the camera relentlessly keeps coming back to her grundle like guacamole dip at a backyard BBQ. They also covered her ass in some sort of chocolate spray that doesn’t fold well when she lifts her leg. Doesn’t matter though, because this is for female empowerment. If ladies want to go to the gym dressed as a high-class stripper and make orgasm faces while they do deadlifts, hey… it’s their prerogative. Thanks for keeping feminism classy, LOVE Magazine. Also… Some drunk person on a TV show about drunk people in Florida has a drinking problem. [ Cel...

Last-Minute Holiday Deliveries Mean Bad Working Conditions

We all know how it is. You procrastinated, and then you got busy. You forgot Aunt Sally was coming for Christmas. You pulled out the Hanukkah linens and they looked dingy. You realized that shovel just didn’t have another winter left in it. At these moments, near-instantaneous home delivery feels like a miracle. But customers’ convenience can quickly turn into workers’ misfortune. Delivery services like the US Postal Service, UPS, and FedEx are hiring seasonal workers at a frantic pace, and retail giants like Amazon, Walmart, and Target are using courier contractors and experimenting with their own Uber-like on-demand delivery models to get packages the last mile to our homes. And still, logistics giants like UPS can’t keep up with the pace. The need to get our packages to us when we need—or want—them, has pushed the delivery model and its workers to the brink. There can be real dangers to delivering holiday joy: the US Department of Labor has found that temporary workers wh...

Long Island Iced Tea Corp’s Shares Skyrocket After Renaming Itself ‘Long Blockchain Corp’

(Reuters) - Beverage maker Long Island Iced Tea Corp’s <LTEA.O> shares jumped 300 percent after the company said it would rebrand itself Long Blockchain Corp, the latest obscure U.S. firm to tap into the frenzy surrounding crypto currencies. Long Island Ice Tea said it was shifting its primary business strategy to blockchain technology and was in the preliminary stages of evaluating specific opportunities to grow that business. The company said it would still continue to operate its beverage business, under which it sells Long Island iced tea and Long Island lemonade. The surge in the company’s stock price lifted its market capitalization to $92 million from $23.8 million as of Wednesday’s close. Several other small U.S. firms in recent weeks have reshaped their business models to capitalize on the craze for blockchain technology, which supports cryptocurrency. Earlier in the day, furniture maker Nova Lifestyle’s shares <NVFY.O> also jumped after it said it...

Alphabet’s Eric Schmidt Stepping Down As Executive Chairman

Dec 21 (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc said on Thursday its Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt will step down from his position to become a technical adviser as of its next regular board meeting in January. He will continue to serve on the Alphabet’s board of directors, the company said. “The time is right in Alphabet’s evolution for this transition,” Schmidt said in a statement. “The Alphabet structure is working well, and Google and the Other Bets are thriving.” Schmidt will continue to serve Alphabet as an adviser focused on technical and science issues, the company said Thursday. “I’m incredibly excited about the progress our companies are making and about the strong leaders who are driving that innovation,” said Chief Executive Larry Page in a statement. Schmidt, who was recruited to the company by Google Co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, served as chief executive of the company from 2001 through 2011.Schmidt was instrumental to growing the company from a Mountain Vie...

Apple Hit With Lawsuits After Admitting It Intentionally Slowed Down iPhones

Apple is facing several lawsuits after the tech giant admitted this week that it was deliberately slowing down the performance of its older iPhones. In a statement on Wednesday, the company said slowing down the phones via a recent software update was necessary because the aging batteries in older phones were causing devices to unexpectedly shut down. Understandably, iPhone users were pissed. Dollar General To Create 400 New Jobs In Texas As It Expands In Rural America

Dollar General, a favorite spot for household staples across the country, is expanding even further. The company announced plans Wednesday to build a new distribution center in Longview, Texas, that will create 400 jobs at full capacity. The facility, to be located around two hours east of Dallas by car, will serve around 1,000 locations in the southeast U.S. Dollar General’s announcement comes just a few weeks after the company pledged to open 900 new stores in 2018, its second year expanding at such a scale. After those locations open, over 75 percent of Americans will likely live within five miles of a Dollar General, CNN Money noted earlier this month. The company ― which sells a typical drug store’s array of products from cleaning supplies to breakfast cereals ― has grown in recent years largely thanks to low-income shoppers in rural areas that have been slow to recover from the economic downturn. Reportshave indicated Dollar General is competing neck-and-neck with Wal-...

World’s Wealthiest Billionaires Got Nearly $1 Trillion Richer In 2017: Bloomberg

The rich aren’t just getting richer — they’re getting much, much richer. Citing its Billionaires Index, Bloomberg reported Wednesday that the world’s 500 wealthiest people became almost $1 trillion richer ― that’s $1,000,000,000,000 ― in 2017, thanks largely to booming stock markets. For comparison, that’s over four times as much wealth as they gained last year. He added $34.2 billion to his net worth, which now totals $100 billion. Apple Apologizes For Slowed iPhones, Drops Price Of Battery Replacements

Apple has apologized for covertly slowing down the performance of iPhones with older batteries ― and, as a peace offering, it’s temporarily dropping the price of its replacement batteries. Starting late January until December 2018, battery replacements will be $29 ― down from the original price of $79 ― for users with an iPhone 6 or later version. “We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize,” the company wrote in a statement published on Thursday. “First and foremost, we have never ― and would never ― do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades,” the statement read. Apple also insisted that it designs iPhones to “last as long as possible.” Still, some consumers thought the discount was insufficient. Discount? I would like a free battery. They can afford it. https://t.co/ekNq1Hr74F — sarbjit kaur (@sarbjitkaur1) December 28, 2017 Others defended Apple and argu...

Minimum Wage Raises Coming To 18 States On New Year’s Day

Minimum wage workers in 18 states will get a pay hike next week when higher wage floors go into effect around the country for 2018. With the federal minimum wage remaining just $7.25 per hour, more and more states have opted to implement their own, higher rates that local employers must observe. Many of the bumps slated for New Year’s Day come courtesy of recent ballot initiatives approved by voters or bills passed by statehouses, in red and blue states alike. Some of those states have laws requiring that the minimum wage is adjusted each year according to an inflation index, to rise with the cost of living. So several of the raises amount to less than a quarter an hour. But other states that recently enacted new laws will have more significant increases. Maine’s will move a full dollar, to $10. Hawaii’s will rise 85 cents, to $10.10. And Colorado’s will increase 90 cents, to $10.20. Here are the states with new minimum wages, according to the Economic Policy Institute,...

Pope: It’s a sin if fear makes us hostile to migrants

Hình ảnh
next Image 1 of 2 prev Image 2 of 2 VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis says while fear of migrants is "legitimate," it's a sin if that causes hostility. Francis invited migrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, newly-arrived immigrants and second-generation immigrant families to a special Mass he celebrated Sunday in St. Peter's Basilica. He noted that some local communities fear new arrivals will disturb the established order. He says that while that's "comprehensible from a human point of view," it is a sin if these fears "compromise respect and generosity" and "feed hostility and rejection" of those different from us. In his almost five-year-old papacy, Francis has stressed Christianity's mission, in following Jesus, to welcome vulnerable and marginalized people. His focus comes as wealthier countries, including several European Union nations and the U.S., are intent on increasing physical or legal barriers...

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran says 55 people are still being detained in the capital after hundreds were arrested during a wave of anti-government protests. The semi-official Fars news agency quoted judiciary spokesman Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejehi as saying there were around 400 protesters held across the country but that "some were released" Saturday and Sunday. Last week, an Iranian reformist lawmaker, Mahmoud Sadeghi, said some 3,700 people were arrested across the country. The protests, which began three weeks ago, were initially sparked by anger at the weak economy and official corruption, but escalated rapidly, with some protesters calling for the overthrow of the government. Clashes broke out at some protests, and at least 21 people were killed. Iranian authorities say the protests have been waning in recent days. Threats to kill Steelers and fans lead to arrest: report

A Texas man who allegedly threatened to stage an attack at Heinz Field during an NFL playoff game has reportedly been arrested. (Reuters) A Texas man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to kill members of the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the team’s fans, according to reports. Yuttana Choochongkol, 30, allegedly made the threats in communications to a Pittsburgh television station and to the security director at Heinz Field, the Steelers’ home stadium, KSAT-TV in San Antonio reported. The same message indicates that the author intended to kill himself as well: “The Steelers game will be packed, and that's when I plan on killing Steelers football players and fans before taking my own pitiful life,” one message said in part. “After all, what does a person that is going to commit suicide have to lose? Absolutely nothing. So why not take out some million dollar Steelers players before me? Sounds like a good idea. Hahahahahah” Authorities obtained the IP address...

Prominent Egyptian activist acquitted of illegal protest

CAIRO – An appeals court in the Egyptian city of Alexandria has acquitted a prominent activist and rights lawyer of charges of taking part in an illegal demonstration.
